Don’t Forget to Brush Your Tongue!

After you brush your teeth, be sure you brush your tongue.

Our tongue can house bacteria that not only lead to bad breath but can also cause dental health issues. You want to make sure that besides brushing your teeth, you should also brush your tongue and gums to keep a healthy mouth. Some general tips for proper brushing include:

  • Tilt the brush at a 45-degree angle against the gumline and sweep the brush away from your gumline.
  • Lightly brush the outside, inside and chewing surface of the teeth using short back-and-forth motions.
  • Gently brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen breath.

It is important to remember that just rinsing out your mouth is not enough to remove the bacteria from your tongue. You may also wish to incorporate a tongue scraper into your dental hygiene routine if bad breath is still an issue. One of the main causes of bad breath is poor hygiene. If this does not help treat your bad breath, consult with your dentist to discuss what can be causing this issue and possible treatment options.

If you practice proper dental hygiene but bad breath is still an issue, schedule an appointment with Milford Dental Excellence.
