Why Regular Visits to Milford Dental Excellence are Important

Did you have a dental visit with us in the last 6 months?

Routine examinations by one of our dentists are necessary to ensure healthy gums and teeth. Waiting until you feel pain or discomfort often makes a minor dental issue turn into a major one.

Most of us are aware of the benefits of dental check-ups. Aside from maintaining healthy gums or identifying early decay, the dentist will examine existing fillings, crowns, and/or dental implants. Following, are some reminders:

Dental decay typically begins by affecting the outer layer of the tooth enamel. As it progresses, decay moves toward the center of the tooth where the nerves are located. This can lead to the beginning of uncomfortable hot or cold sensitivity. If you experience this, it is necessary to see your dentist as soon as possible.

Though people often pay attention to gums and teeth when brushing, other areas in the mouth need to be checked as well. It is essential to routinely look at the top and underside of the tongue, noticing any discoloration, lumps or sores. Changes or pain in the tongue, as well as any other area inside the mouth, need to be examined by your dentist.

Bad breath is a dental issue that could indicate disease. Often, the underlying cause of bad breath is gingivitis. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums which can eventually lead to tooth loss but also can affect overall health. It is important to make an appointment with your dentist to determine what is causing your bad breath.

Some health issues develop due to the aging process, but often they can be a sign of something else. Dry mouth is one example. See your dentist to ensure that the dry mouth you are experiencing is not associated with a bacterial infection or possibly another condition. We know that some dry mouth may be indicative of rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, low blood pressure, or autoimmune conditions.

White spots on your teeth may indicate the beginning of dental decay! These spots may be caused by the acid that is produced by the bacteria in your mouth. Bacteria that is not effectively removed and allowed to stay on the tooth will eventually be the start of tooth decay.

In conclusion, if you notice any changes or discomfort in your mouth, or if you have developed any of the conditions noted above, it is important you contact Milford Dental Excellence to set up an appointment with one of our dentists immediately.
